Nollywood filmmaker Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe was arrested by NDLEA for drug trafficking after his partner, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, collected cannabis from a warehouse. The incident, involving 17.30 kilograms of "Loud" cannabis, highlights NDLEA's ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes, with additional arrests made in Kwara State and Port Harcourt.
On December 27, 2024, Nollywood filmmaker Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe was arrested in his Lekki hotel room by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for his involvement in drug trafficking. Mbadiwe, a US-trained Hollywood and Nollywood filmmaker and motivational speaker, was apprehended alongside his partner, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, who was detained earlier that day at a warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja.
James had been sent to collect a shipment of 33 parcels of "Loud," a potent strain of cannabis weighing 17.30 kilograms, which had arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on December 24, 2024. The drugs, concealed in wooden boxes, were flown in from the United States on a Delta Airlines flight.
In other drug-related developments, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State arrested two individuals, Khadijat Abdulraheem and Ayomide Morakinyo, for producing and selling drug-laced cupcakes to students near the University of Ilorin. A search of their apartment led to the discovery of 42 drug-laced cupcakes.
Additionally, ex-convict Sodade Sunday Eniola, previously arrested for drug trafficking in June 2024, was apprehended again for passport racketeering. NDLEA officers also seized over 50 passports concealed in shoe soles and food items, leading to the arrest of several suspects. In late December, NDLEA officers intercepted 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, further highlighting the agency’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
