The NDLEA has accused Senator Oyeyola Ashiru of Kwara South of hypocrisy after recovering illicit drugs from his home. Following his public criticism of the agency, NDLEA officials assert that Ashiru’s remarks stem from personal vendetta rather than genuine concern, reaffirming their commitment to combat drug trafficking.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has accused Senator Oyeyola Ashiru of Kwara South of hypocrisy after alleging that illicit drugs were found in his home. This assertion follows the senator's public criticism of the agency, where he described it as "corrupt and compromised," and called for the creation of a new anti-drug body.

Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), chairman of the NDLEA, addressed these allegations during a press briefing, suggesting Ashiru's remarks stemmed from personal vendetta rather than genuine public concern. Marwa noted that the agency had previously conducted a raid on Ashiru's residence, resulting in the recovery of drugs and the arrest of two aides. He emphasized that the NDLEA would continue its efforts to dismantle drug networks, including those associated with the senator.

Marwa further clarified that while the Senate holds the authority to propose new agencies, Ashiru’s accusations against the NDLEA were unfounded and misleading. The NDLEA highlighted its accomplishments, including over 52,000 arrests and more than 9,000 convictions in recent years, as evidence of its effectiveness in combating drug-related crimes.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and urged the public to see through what it described as Ashiru’s attempts to discredit the NDLEA. The agency remains focused on its mission, asserting that it will not be deterred by the senator's attacks.
