The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Oguejiofor Nnaemeka Simon Peter, a 29-year-old who recently returned from Thailand, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 13.3 kg of heroin valued at over N3.1 billion into Nigeria.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, reported that Oguejiofor was apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after arriving via a connecting flight through Doha, Qatar. Concealed within six backpacks hidden in two suitcases, the heroin was discovered during routine checks. According to Babafemi, Oguejiofor admitted he was promised $7,000 to transport the drugs, which were intended for delivery in both Lagos and Accra.

The NDLEA also announced additional drug seizures, valued at N22.7 billion, from various seaports in Lagos and Rivers State. These included millions of tramadol pills and codeine syrup bottles that were intercepted through joint operations with Nigeria Customs between October 7 and October 11.

Further arrests and drug confiscations occurred in Anambra and Edo States, where NDLEA agents seized large quantities of tramadol and cannabis in separate operations.
