Senator Ned Nwoko resigned from the PDP over fears of losing the 2027 senatorial ticket, says Fred Oghenesivbe, an aide to Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He dismissed Nwoko’s claims of party division, alleging the senator strategically left due to political ambitions and misalignment with the PDP leadership.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was motivated by concerns over his 2027 senatorial ambitions, according to Fred Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau.

In a letter dated January 30, 2025, Nwoko informed his Aniocha Northward of his decision to leave the party, citing deep divisions and internal factions within the PDP. He argued that these challenges had hindered his ability to effectively serve his constituents.

However, Oghenesivbe, a close aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, dismissed Nwoko’s justification as a mere political maneuver. Speaking in an interview over the weekend, he claimed that the senator’s true motivation was securing a stronger political platform for 2027.

“We all knew it was only a matter of time before he left. This is about his future political prospects. As things stand, he is not aligned with Governor Oborevwori or the PDP’s leadership in Delta State,” Oghenesivbe stated.
He further alleged that Nwoko had misrepresented the PDP at the National Assembly, pointing to his stance on the controversial Okpai step-down transformer project. According to Oghenesivbe, the senator unfairly blamed the state government for a federal-level energy project, using it as a pretext for leaving the PDP.

With Nwoko now outside the ruling party in Delta, political analysts speculate on his next move, with some suggesting he may join an opposition party to strengthen his chances of reelection. However, neither Nwoko nor his allies have officially commented on their 2027 strategy.
