Rivers State Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas has announced plans for a new 2025 budget focusing on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social services. Following a Supreme Court ruling invalidating past budgets, the state seeks economic stability. National Assembly members pledge support for peace and development efforts in the state.
Rivers State is set to implement a new 2025 budget as part of efforts to restore stability and accelerate development following months of political and legal battles. Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas, speaking during a meeting with the state's National Assembly caucus in Port Harcourt, assured that the budget would prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services.
He emphasized transparency and urgency in the budgetary process to ensure residents benefit without further delays. The budget crisis dates back to 2023 when governance was paralyzed by a divided state assembly and legal disputes over the validity of previously approved budgets. Following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated earlier budgets, Rivers faced funding restrictions until President Bola Tinubu intervened, declaring a state of emergency and appointing Ibas as sole administrator.
National Assembly representatives, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi, pledged their support for peace and development initiatives in Rivers. As the state works to resolve its governance challenges, the new budget is expected to play a crucial role in restoring normalcy and advancing key projects.
