Nigeria’s NSA Nuhu Ribadu has warned the new Lakurawa terror group, active in the North-West, that the government will not tolerate threats under President Tinubu's leadership. The Defence Headquarters confirmed Lakurawa’s ties to Sahel extremists, with intensified military operations underway to curb their impact on regional security.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has issued a stern warning to Lakurawa, a new extremist group operating in Nigeria’s North-West, affirming that their days are numbered. Ribadu, speaking at the Comptroller General of Customs Conference in Abuja, emphasized that such groups will not succeed while President Bola Tinubu holds office. Highlighting the government’s stance against terrorism, he expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security forces would eliminate this threat, ensuring safety for all citizens.

Last week, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the group’s presence in Sokoto and Kebbi, noting its ties to Sahel-based terrorists from Mali and Niger. Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, described the group’s entry into Nigeria from neighboring Sahelian regions, following strained military cooperation with Niger. According to Buba, the military is actively working to contain this new threat.

Security forces have named nine wanted terrorists linked to the increasing unrest in the North-West. Ribadu’s statement reinforces the Nigerian government’s commitment to intensifying efforts against terrorist incursions, aiming to secure peace and stability in affected regions.
