A newlywed couple and 16 other passengers were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. A newlywed couple and 16 other individuals sustained injuries in a traffic accident on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, on Saturday, December 7, 2024. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the crash occurred when a commercial LT bus suffered brake failure and collided with a slow-moving mini truck.

The newlyweds, who were returning from the Ikoyi Marriage Registry, were among the injured passengers. The collision resulted in several victims suffering broken bones and other injuries. Emergency services, including LASTMA, LASEMA, LASAMBUS, and the police, responded swiftly to the scene, rescuing the 18 individuals involved.

Two victims were trapped in the wreckage of the LT bus and were extricated by the combined efforts of responders and bystanders. They were rushed to Gbagada General Hospital for specialized care. The others were transported to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Centre for treatment.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed his sympathy for the victims, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vehicles in good condition, especially the brakes, and following speed limits. LASTMA's ongoing road safety campaigns aim to raise awareness among motorists, particularly commercial bus drivers, ahead of the holiday season.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, urging road users to exercise caution to prevent such accidents.
