NFF President Gusau pledges to prepare Nigeria's football teams for success in 2025, focusing on competitive performances at major tournaments. He emphasized the importance of the Super Eagles World Cup qualification and the Super Falcons’ preparation for AWCON, along with support for youth teams like the Flamingos and Falconets.
In a New Year's pledge, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, assured Nigerians that the NFF is committed to properly preparing the nation’s football teams for upcoming challenges in 2025. Gusau emphasized that the era of merely participating in major tournaments was over, with the NFF now focusing on ensuring competitive teams that can contend for titles.
Reflecting on 2024, Gusau acknowledged the National Teams’ achievements but expressed concern over the Super Eagles’ performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He believes a revival of the team, which nearly won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2024, is necessary for a successful World Cup qualification. Gusau also highlighted that the Super Falcons ranked as Africa’s best team in 2024, will be well-prepared to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) title in 2025.
The NFF president also praised the younger women's teams, the Falconets and Flamingos, for their World Cup performances and noted their potential to succeed at future tournaments. Gusau’s pledge includes organizing more friendly matches for the Super Falcons and a focus on grassroots football development to ensure a steady flow of talent into the National Teams.
The NFF aims to achieve success by fostering collaboration with the National Sports Commission and corporate partners, ensuring that the national teams are ready to bring joy and glory to Nigerians in 2025.
