The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) denies owing the late Christian Chukwu $128,000, addressing rumors that circulated after his death. NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi stated no outstanding debts from Chukwu’s time as coach, reaffirming the federation’s commitment to settling legitimate financial claims.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strongly refuted claims that it owed the late football legend, Christian Chukwu, $128,000 before his death. Chukwu, who passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 74, was a former Super Eagles captain and coach. Following his death, rumors spread across social media, alleging that the NFF had an outstanding financial obligation to Chukwu.
In response to the claims, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi denied any such debt, stating that there was no record of such an amount in the federation's financial records. He further explained that during the first term of the board headed by Amaju Pinnick, a committee was formed to address any unpaid debts to coaches, including those from previous administrations. Sanusi emphasized that Chukwu’s tenure as head coach between 2002 and 2005 was fully accounted for, with no outstanding financial claims from that period.
The NFF also reiterated its commitment to paying off any legitimate debts promptly, should they arise in the future. Christian Chukwu, fondly known as 'Chairman,' is remembered for his instrumental role in leading Nigeria to its historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations victory. His passing has left a significant void in the Nigerian football community.
