The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Kenyan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi, a Nigerian content moderator working in Nairobi.
Olubunmi, an employee of Teleperformance Kenya, was found dead in her apartment on March 7, 2025. Reports indicate that her decomposing body was discovered three days after her passing.
Concerns have been raised about her work conditions, with colleagues alleging she was repeatedly denied leave despite being entitled to an annual return ticket home. Some claim that many Nigerian employees lack proper work permits, limiting their ability to travel.
Teleperformance Kenya dismissed these claims as "baseless and untrue." However, industry workers have pointed out broader issues, including low wages, inadequate mental health support, and excessive work hours for content moderators across tech firms.
NiDCOM, through a statement signed by Gabriel Odu, emphasized the need for labor laws that ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians working abroad. Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa extended condolences to Olubunmi’s family and assured that the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya is monitoring the situation.
She urged Nigerian job seekers to verify employment conditions before accepting offers abroad. Meanwhile, NiDCOM has called on Nigerians in Kenya to remain calm while authorities conduct their investigation into Olubunmi’s tragic death.
