Fatima Dzuma of Niger State has been arrested for allegedly strangling her husband, Baba, after a violent argument. She confessed to the crime, claiming she no longer liked him. Baba's body was discovered on December 31, 2024, and Dzuma is currently in police custody pending further investigation.
A shocking murder occurred in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Niger State, where Fatima Dzuma allegedly killed her husband, Baba, after admitting she no longer liked him. The couple had been married for three years, and Baba had a child from a previous marriage. Fatima had one child from her first marriage.
The tragic event unfolded when, during a violent argument, Baba reportedly beat Fatima. While he slept later that night, Fatima strangled him with a scarf and struck him twice on the head and once on the hand with a pestle, breaking his hand. Afterward, she wrapped his body in a mat, dragged it to the backyard, and attempted to cover up her actions.
For three days, Fatima denied knowing Baba's whereabouts, even as his family searched for him. However, she later confessed to the crime, stating, "The devil made me do it." She admitted to having acted alone in committing the murder.
On December 31, 2024, Baba's lifeless body was discovered in a bush near Katcha, Niger State. The Niger State Police, led by operatives from the Katcha Division, responded promptly to the scene. Following further investigation, Fatima was arrested, and her confession was recorded.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Fatima, currently in police custody, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at Bida General Hospital.
