Nigeria is set to launch its electronic visa (e-visa) system on May 1, 2025, along with the digitalization of landing and exit cards at international airports. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministries of Aviation and Interior, aims to enhance immigration processes, security, and inter-ministerial collaboration.
The Nigerian government has announced plans to implement an electronic visa (e-visa) system starting May 1, 2025. The initiative, unveiled by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation, and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, aims to streamline immigration procedures at international airports. In addition to the e-visa, the government will also digitalize landing and exit cards, enhancing both efficiency and security.
Keyamo emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration in the success of the project, noting the joint efforts between the Ministries of Aviation and Interior. Tunji-Ojo added that the digitalized system will also aid in intelligence gathering and improve documentation processes for foreigners entering and exiting the country.
The government has worked closely with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure the smooth rollout of the e-visa and digital card system. The initiative is expected to enhance national security and ease the travel experience for international visitors.
