The Nigerian federal government has launched a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy aimed at making Nigeria a global leader in the digital economy. The initiative, inaugurated by Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, is a collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation. The online academy will provide free training for students, youths, and civil servants, focusing on AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and real-world applications. The registration deadline is January 30, 2025.

Nnaji highlighted the importance of the academy, describing it as a transformative platform for acquiring critical AI skills. He emphasized that AI is reshaping industries across the globe, and Nigeria must lead in this technological revolution. Participants will not only learn AI skills but also gain opportunities for internships with Intel Corporation and compete for AI ambassadorial roles, creating global exposure.

The initiative is designed to equip Nigerians with the tools needed to drive progress in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and security, ensuring the country’s future development. Nnaji stressed that the AI Academy would create a pipeline of innovators and leaders capable of solving national challenges. He reiterated the significance of AI in nation-building and its potential to revolutionize industries and promote sustainable economic growth.
