The Nigerian presidency defended President Tinubu's trip to France during his leave, following earlier visits to China, Dubai, and the UK. Presidential advisers stated that Tinubu, currently on a two-week break, has the freedom to travel wherever he chooses, sparking mixed public reactions on his recent travels.
The Nigerian presidency has addressed questions regarding President Bola Tinubu's recent travel to France during his two-week leave. Bayo Onanuga, the president's special adviser on information, stated that Tinubu is on personal leave, granting him the freedom to travel to destinations of his choice.
This trip comes after Tinubu's earlier travels to China, Dubai, and the UK. Following his return to Abuja on September 16, the president left for the UK on October 2 to begin his annual leave. On Friday, Kabir Masari, the senior special assistant on political matters, confirmed that Tinubu had moved on from the UK to France, noting his visit to Tinubu's UK residence beforehand.
The announcement stirred mixed reactions, with some Nigerians expressing concerns about the president's frequent international trips. Onanuga responded to this criticism via a post on X, explaining that the president is within his rights to travel as he wishes during his private time. He emphasized that Tinubu's current leave is a personal break, and he can travel wherever he prefers.
The trips follow Tinubu’s recent participation in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which he attended after state visits in both Dubai and China.
