The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has appointed Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as the chairman of its board of governors for 2025. He will also serve as Nigeria’s OPEC governor for the upcoming year. The announcement was made following the 189th meeting of the OPEC conference, with Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, confirming the appointment.
In a statement, Lokpobiri emphasized that Adeyemi-Bero's appointment highlights Nigeria's influential role in the global oil industry and provides the country with a platform to advocate for balanced energy policies. The minister also expressed gratitude to Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC governor, for his significant contributions in advancing Nigeria's interests within OPEC.
Additionally, OPEC appointed Adeeb Al-Aama as Saudi Arabia's governor and alternate chairman for 2025. The conference extended the tenure of Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary General until 2028, recognizing his exceptional leadership. Furthermore, Nigeria’s oil production quota of 1.5 million barrels per day was extended to 2026. The meeting also addressed various internal matters and reviewed the oil production agreements among OPEC and non-OPEC member countries.
