The Nigerian government has declared December 25-26, 2024, and January 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year. Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity during the festive season while promoting national development.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. These holidays are scheduled for Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
The announcement was made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. The Minister extended heartfelt greetings to Nigerians and emphasized the importance of the holidays as a time for reflection on core values such as love, peace, and unity.
“The season reminds us of the virtues of kindness and goodwill. As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, let us extend compassion and understanding toward one another,” the Minister stated.
He also reassured citizens that the Federal Government remains dedicated to creating a peaceful and secure environment for all. Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism about the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, which he believes will drive economic growth and prosperity in the coming year.
The Minister concluded by wishing all Nigerians a joyous Christmas and a successful start to the year 2025.
