President Tinubu's government proposes a substantial ₦105,000 new monthly minimum wage for Nigerian workers, aiming to boost purchasing power and address economic challenges, pending stakeholder consultations and potential debates.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, convened with President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, at the State House in Abuja. Edun, in response to a 48-hour ultimatum, presented a new minimum wage template proposing ₦105,000 per month.
The government aims to address the longstanding minimum wage debate, previously stalled by disagreements between government, organized labor, and the private sector. Tinubu is currently reviewing the proposal, anticipated to be discussed further in the tripartite committee meeting.
