Alhassan Ndagi, the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, has urged Nigerian nurses to remain in the country, stressing that Nigeria needs their services more than Europe or America. His remarks were made during the induction of 37 new nursing graduates in Osogbo.

Speaking through Stella Godswill, Ndagi encouraged the new nurses to stay committed to their profession, despite the ongoing economic challenges in Nigeria. He acknowledged that many nurses might consider moving abroad for better opportunities, but reminded them that their nursing degree marks the beginning of a rewarding career, with Nigeria offering significant opportunities for their expertise.

The call comes as many healthcare professionals, including nurses, are leaving Nigeria in search of better working conditions and salaries abroad, a phenomenon widely referred to as "japa." Ndagi appealed to the nurses to recognize the urgent need for their skills at home, as the healthcare system in Nigeria continues to face significant challenges.

While acknowledging the hardships that local nurses face, Ndagi highlighted that their role is crucial in addressing the nation’s healthcare needs. He emphasized that the country relies heavily on its dedication, and staying in Nigeria would help contribute to the advancement of its healthcare infrastructure.
