Nigeria’s Super Eagles conclude 2024 ranked 44th in the FIFA World Rankings, maintaining their position from November. Despite qualification for AFCON 2025, recent performances, including a loss to Rwanda, caused a significant drop in ranking points. Morocco leads Africa at 14th globally, with Senegal and Egypt following.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles retained their 44th position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, as published by the global football governing body on Thursday. This marks the conclusion of 2024 with the team ranked fifth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
The Super Eagles’ current ranking follows a turbulent period in November when they dropped eight places from 36th, the steepest decline by any nation that month. A 1-1 draw against Benin and a shocking 2-1 home loss to Rwanda in the final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers significantly impacted their global standing, costing them 21.06 ranking points.
Despite the setback, Nigeria’s qualification for the tournament remains intact. However, their total ranking points now stand at 1482.23, down from 1503.29 in the previous update.
On the continental stage, Morocco leads African teams at 14th globally, followed by Senegal at 17th. Other teams in the African top 10 include Egypt (33rd), Algeria (37th), and Nigeria (44th), with Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, and South Africa rounding out the list.
