BudgIT, a civic organization focused on the Nigerian budget and public data, has endorsed suspended Senator Abdul Ningi's claims regarding a N3.7 trillion gap in the 2024 budget presented to the National Assembly.
The Director and co-founder of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde, emphasized during an interview with Channels Television that Ningi's assertion about the absence of a detailed allocation for N3.7 trillion in the budget was accurate. This backing comes in light of Senator Ningi's suspension on allegations related to the 2024 budget, where he accused it of being padded by N3 trillion and claimed neglect of the North under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
BudgIT's Seun Onigbinde highlighted transparency concerns, pointing out that statutory elements in the budget lack comprehensive analysis, specifically mentioning allocations for entities like the National Assembly, National Judicial Council, Independent National Electoral Commission, and Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
The organization stressed the importance of detailed breakdowns for public scrutiny, supporting Ningi's call for transparency in budgetary allocations.
