This initiative aims to position Nigeria as a regional aviation hub, creating jobs and enhancing the country's aviation sector. XeJet’s new MRO facility in Abuja is a key part.

The Nigerian government is taking significant steps toward establishing an aircraft manufacturing industry. At the unveiling of XeJet’s new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Abuja, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed plans to launch a local aircraft manufacturing company. The government aims to improve aviation services and support local operators through this initiative.

Keyamo highlighted the importance of the MRO facility, which is a result of a collaboration between XeJet and local banks. This partnership is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to become a regional hub for aviation services. The project also includes establishing a training center, contributing to the development of the country’s aviation ecosystem.

XeJet’s CEO, Emmanuel Iza, expressed ambitions for Nigeria to join the global aircraft manufacturing market, starting with producing components such as wings, landing gears, and tires. He emphasized the potential for job creation, with the facility currently employing around 300 people, and plans to increase this number fourfold as the project progresses.

The initial phase of the project includes land preparation and the construction of a taxiway to connect the runway with the facility, with an estimated cost of $5 million. This development is expected to boost Nigeria’s aviation capacity and position it as a key player in the West African aviation industry.
