The U.S. has released its 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) list, excluding Nigeria, the UK, and other African nations. While Romania was newly added, travelers from ineligible countries must apply for a visa. The update introduces new travel policies and eligibility criteria for visa-free entry into the U.S.
The United States has updated its 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP), excluding Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and several African nations from eligibility. The program allows travelers from approved countries to visit the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism or business.
While the UK has been removed, it remains eligible under certain conditions. Meanwhile, Romania has been added to the list in a notable change. The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs confirmed that travelers from VWP-approved nations must obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval before their trip.
The latest policy revision means that Nigerian and other African travelers will still need to apply for a U.S. visa. The update also introduced adjustments to travel permit eligibility and modifications to participating nations.
The VWP aims to simplify short-term visits for select countries, but the exclusion of Nigeria and other African nations raises concerns over travel restrictions. With changing immigration policies, travelers from affected countries must adhere to the standard visa application process to enter the United States.
