The Nigerian Army has refuted claims of a leadership vacuum due to the absence of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. Army spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, clarified that Lagbaja is on official leave, and appropriate protocols are in place for Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), to act in his stead.

Nwachukwu stressed that the army remains fully functional, with operations continuing seamlessly under the structured command system. He urged the public to disregard rumors, assuring that the army’s routine and scheduled activities were proceeding as usual.
