The Nigerian Army has promoted 108 officers, including 35 brigadiers to major generals and 73 colonels to brigadiers. Key promotions include officers involved in major operations like Hadin Kai and Operation Whirl Stroke. The Chief of Army Staff urged the officers to continue their commitment to Nigeria’s security.

The Nigerian Army has announced the promotion of 108 officers, including 35 brigadier generals elevated to the rank of major general and 73 colonels promoted to brigadier general. The army’s director of public relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, released the statement on December 20, 2024.

Among those promoted to major general are:
  • A. Garba, acting provost marshal
  • U.M. Alkali, deputy chief of administration at the Directorate of Veteran Affairs
  • A.G.L. Haruna, acting general officer commanding 7 Division and commander of Sector 1, North-East Operation Hadin Kai
  • I.A. Ajose, acting general officer commanding 8 Division and commander of Sector 2, North-West Operation Fansan Yamma
  • N.B. Ebulue, Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre
  • L.G. Lepdung, commander of Operation Whirl Stroke
  • O.A. Awolo, director of military training at the Nigerian Defence Academy
  • U.G. Ogeleka, commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command
Other newly promoted officers include O.A. Fadairo, commander of the 12 Brigade; O.D. Williams, commander of the 22 Brigade; J.R. Lar, commander of the 32 Brigade; and A.G. Mahmuda, commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy.

The list of colonels promoted to brigadier general is equally impressive, with figures such as:
  • S.M. Iliya, commander of 43 Engineers Brigade
  • O. Igwe, commander of 78 Supply and Transport
  • N.E. Udofia, Nigerian Army Electrical Mechanical Engineers
Army Chief of Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold their responsibilities with renewed dedication to Nigeria’s security.
