On December 4, 2024, the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army awarded electric motorcycles to outstanding soldiers in a ceremony at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos. Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, led the event, emphasizing the initiative’s alignment with the Army's goals of operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The electric motorcycles, capable of reaching speeds up to 40 km/h and covering 100 km on a two-hour charge, offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional vehicles. This initiative not only aims to reduce transportation costs within the Cantonment but also supports Nigeria's environmental objectives.
A dedicated charging station was set up at the Headquarters to ensure convenience for users. The program builds upon efforts started in 2022 and is part of the broader welfare-enhancing projects for the Division, including accommodation renovations and new office complexes. The GOC reiterated the importance of rewarding excellence and encouraged soldiers to remain committed to their duties, with more phases of the reward initiative planned for the future.
During the ceremony, keys to the motorcycles were handed over to the recipients, marking the occasion with a group photograph to commemorate their achievements.
