The Digest:

The Nigerian Army's 6 Division has intercepted stolen crude oil and illegally refined products worth over ₦150 million in a coordinated operation across the Niger Delta. The two-week operation, conducted with other security agencies, led to the dismantling of multiple illegal refining sites and the arrest of four suspects.

Key Points:

  • Troops recovered over 109,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.
  • The seized products include 88,000 litres of crude oil and 21,355 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel).
  • Operations were conducted in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
  • Four suspected oil thieves were arrested during the raids.
  • In Rivers State, 40,000 litres of stolen crude and 20,000 litres of illegal diesel were confiscated.
  • A Cotonou boat loaded with stolen products was intercepted in Akuku-Toru LGA.
  • The General Officer Commanding urged residents to provide credible intelligence on criminals.
This sustained offensive against oil theft strikes at the heart of a shadow economy, aiming to reclaim stolen resources and restore a measure of order to the region's vital but vulnerable economic lifeline.
