President Bola Tinubu has authorized the disbursement of N108 billion to all 36 states in Nigeria to combat flooding and other natural disasters. The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, at the State House in Abuja.

Shettima characterized the flooding situation in Maiduguri as a "national calamity" and emphasized the administration's commitment to partnering with states in addressing these pressing challenges. He noted that, in addition to the recently approved funds, each state would receive N3 billion to help mitigate the impact of the disasters.

The Vice President praised Speaker Tajudeen for his leadership in the National Assembly, particularly in maintaining stability despite the high percentage of newly elected members. Shettima highlighted the importance of collaboration among the executive, legislature, and judiciary to sustain democracy in Nigeria.

In response, Speaker Tajudeen expressed his condolences to Shettima and the people of Borno State, assuring that the National Assembly is committed to providing support to affected communities. He pledged that the assembly would work closely with the government to ensure that victims of the flooding regain their livelihoods and return to normalcy. Tajudeen's sentiments reflected a shared commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis and supporting the people of Borno in their time of need.
