The Federal Government has officially designated Kaduna-based publisher Tukur Mamu and 14 others as terrorism financiers. The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit disclosed that among them are nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators and firms.
The Nigeria Sanctions Committee, in a meeting on March 18, 2024, recommended these entities for sanctions due to their involvement in terrorism financing. Tukur Mamu, currently on trial for allegedly aiding terrorists in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, was listed for receiving and delivering ransom payments to ISWAP terrorists. Other individuals named include suspects involved in attacks on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, and the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja.
Additionally, individuals associated with terrorist groups like Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladissudam and the Islamic State of West Africa Province were identified.
Institutions and individuals are instructed to freeze assets belonging to the designated persons and report all related financial activities to the Sanctions Committee and Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit as mandated by the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
