The Nigerian government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024. This adjustment aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, aimed at improving the welfare and motivation of corps members.

The Federal Government has officially increased the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from N33,000 to N77,000. This adjustment, effective from July 2024, aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

Caroline Embu, the acting spokesperson for NYSC, announced this in a statement on Wednesday. The change was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta.

NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had previously advocated for improved welfare for corps members during a meeting with Nta. His efforts culminated in this allowance boost, aimed at improving the financial well-being of corps members across Nigeria.

Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely decision, emphasizing that the increased allowance will significantly support the corps members' morale and commitment to serving the nation.

The decision is expected to bring substantial relief to the youth corps members, enhancing their ability to meet daily needs while they contribute to national development through their year of service. This development has been well received as a positive step towards better compensation for young Nigerians in the NYSC program.
