Nigerian Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Dauda Bagudu, announced that the Federal Executive Council has approved the sum of N18 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support the conduct of governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States. This financial allocation aims to facilitate the smooth execution of these elections.
Furthermore, Bagudu revealed that the Council has given its approval for a Supplementary Budget of N2.1 trillion for the year 2023. Of this total, N605 billion is designated for national defence and security, while approximately N300 billion is allocated for bridge maintenance.
Moreover, N210 billion is earmarked for wage awards for civil servants, and N400 billion is set aside for cash transfers to vulnerable households. In addition, N8 billion has been allocated for the establishment of newly created ministries, such as the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
This funding will support critical aspects of governance, ensuring the conduct of elections and the country's overall welfare and infrastructure maintenance, according to the Minister. The Supplementary Budget reflects the government's commitment to addressing various national needs effectively
