Members of Nigeria's House of Representatives petitioned President Tinubu for Nnamdi Kanu's release, citing peace restoration in the Southeast.
About 50 members of the House of Representatives, comprising lawmakers from various Nigerian regions and political parties, have jointly urged President Bola Tinubu to utilize constitutional provisions for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a letter dated June 19, 2024, they invoked Section 174 of the Constitution and Section 107(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, proposing Kanu's release to foster peace and address Southeastern challenges.
The lawmakers emphasized the need for dialogue over prolonged legal proceedings, hoping this action would promote national unity and economic stability in the region.
