Salisu Ahmed, a 66-year-old Nigerian man, has become the fourth person in the world to be cured of HIV. After living with the virus for 31 years, Ahmed shared his emotional journey in an interview with reality star Doyin David.

He contracted the virus after his first extramarital affair and endured significant hardship, including stigma, job loss, and abandonment by his family. Despite these challenges, Ahmed found hope when a stem cell transplant led to his cure.

The procedure, performed at City of Hope Medical Center in the U.S., used stem cells from a donor with a rare genetic mutation. Ahmed’s success marks a milestone in HIV treatment, as he is now the oldest person to achieve long-term remission.
