A Nigerian Masters student, Somtochukwu Okwuoha, is facing imprisonment and deportation after being found guilty by a jury of making terrorist threats against Dundee University. Okwuoha claimed he had enlisted ISIS to help bomb the university and announced plans for a chemical attack on the city. The 26-year-old international energy studies student was convicted on seven charges and is currently in custody awaiting sentencing next month.
During the trial, it was revealed that Okwuoha had threatened mass murder on the Dundee University campus, asserting he had a military background and the capability to create bombs and unleash a deadly virus on the city. Witnesses testified that university staff received emails containing terrorist threats, with Okwuoha warning of a "massive bomb explosion" at the university and claiming to have contacted ISIS for assistance.
The Crown is seeking an order to deport Okwuoha to Nigeria, and Sheriff William Wood will consider this along with the sentencing. Okwuoha was found guilty of various charges, including threatening to murder university staff, committing terrorist crimes, using biological weapons, disclosing staff details to international authorities, and claiming to have planted bombs at the university. He also threatened to behead police officers and detonate the alleged bombs at Dundee University
