The Nigerian military reported a successful 2024, neutralizing 10,937 terrorists, arresting 12,538 suspects, and rescuing 7,063 hostages. Operations nationwide recovered 8,815 weapons and over 228,000 rounds of ammunition. Significant achievements in the fight against terrorism highlight the armed forces' commitment to restoring peace and collaboration with regional partners for lasting security.

The Nigerian military has reported significant successes in counterterrorism operations throughout 2024. According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the armed forces neutralized 10,937 terrorists and arrested 12,538 suspects across multiple regions. Additionally, 7,063 hostages were rescued, and 16,171 terrorists, including their families, surrendered.

In the northeast, troops of Operation Hadin Kai eliminated 3,151 terrorists and recovered extensive weaponry, including 1,802 AK47 rifles and over 42,000 rounds of ammunition. The North-West operation neutralized 2,906 terrorists and rescued 2,616 hostages, while the North-Central efforts under Operation Safe Haven eliminated 1,047 violent extremists.

The South-South witnessed a crackdown on oil theft, with troops preventing the theft of 56.2 million liters of crude oil and destroying over 2,600 illegal refining sites. Meanwhile, in the southeast, operations targeted IPOB/ESN terrorists, leading to 734 neutralizations and the rescue of 372 hostages.

Major General Buba highlighted the recovery of 8,815 weapons and over 228,000 rounds of ammunition nationwide. He emphasized the importance of citizen support in the ongoing fight against terrorism, noting the troops’ commitment and morale.
