The Nigerian military has warned of an uptick in terrorist recruitment drives, especially by ISWAP, targeting youth on social media. Ongoing military operations have neutralized over 70 insurgents and prevented major oil thefts. Security forces emphasize continued offensives to dismantle terror groups and curb recruitment efforts online.
The Nigerian military has raised the alarm about an intensified recruitment campaign by terrorists, particularly the ISWAP group, through social media channels. According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, despite the challenges posed by online recruitment, ongoing military offensives have significantly weakened terrorist ranks.
Recent coordinated airstrikes and ground operations, especially in Borno State, resulted in the neutralization of over 70 insurgents in targeted strikes. Additionally, troops have neutralized 169 terrorists, arrested 641 suspects, and disrupted various illicit activities nationwide. In anti-oil theft efforts in the South-South region, security forces prevented thefts worth over N1.4 billion, seized large quantities of illegal crude oil, and destroyed multiple illegal refining sites.
The military also recovered 192 weapons, 2,970 rounds of ammunition, and other items across operations. The armed forces emphasize that these sustained offensives are crucial to dismantling terrorist operations, strengthening national security, and addressing online recruitment threats.
