The Nigerian Senate is set to conduct the screening of seven ministerial nominees proposed by President Bola Tinubu. This event is scheduled for today, following a letter from the President to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, dated October 24. The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu for Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi for Minister of Labour and Employment.
Additionally, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole is nominated for Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development, while Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad will serve as Minister of State for Education. Idi Maiha is slated to become the Minister of Livestock Development and Yusuf Abdullahi Ata is proposed as Minister of State for Housing.
Reports indicate that all nominees have received clearance from the Department of State Services (DSS). On Monday, some nominees were seen at the office of Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, where they submitted their curriculum vitae. This screening marks a crucial step in the confirmation process, with expectations that it will progress smoothly given the nominees’ prior vetting by the DSS. As the Senate prepares for this important session, there is heightened anticipation regarding the nominees' potential contributions to the Tinubu administration.
