The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken swift action, arresting a Computer Based Test (CBT) center operator and an accomplice following inappropriate communication with a 15-year-old candidate of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Board (UTME).
The arrest was initiated after the pupil's mother raised an alarm, reporting inappropriate phone messages received after using her number for the candidate's registration. The concerned mother accused JAMB of negligence and poor data protection. JAMB, responding to the complaint, investigated the matter. It was revealed that the CBT operator obtained the candidate's phone number from the registration form and continued sending messages despite being informed of the teenager's age.
Damilola Bamiro, JAMB ICT consultant, confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the board's commitment to taking action against any reported case. The CBT operator is set to face prosecution, and his center will be deregistered. JAMB assured Nigerians that it will act swiftly in such cases.
This incident has raised concerns about data protection and the need for stringent measures against such misconduct in the examination process.
