Nigerians are criticizing INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu for comparing the 2023 Nigerian elections to Ghana's. While Yakubu praised Ghana’s quicker results, Nigerians highlighted flaws in Nigeria's election, including server glitches, delays in results, and violence, sparking debates about the effectiveness of the electoral process.

The comparison between Nigeria's 2023 presidential election and Ghana’s recent election has sparked heated debate, with many Nigerians calling out INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu as "shameless."

Yakubu praised Ghana’s electoral commission for adopting INEC’s model, which he claimed led to quicker and more orderly results. However, Nigerians are strongly disagreeing, pointing out the major flaws in the 2023 election, including technical glitches with the INEC server, which couldn’t be proven in court, and reports of election violence.

The election, held on February 23, 2023, had its results announced five days later on March 1, with the winner declared around 4 a.m. These delays and flaws led to extended court cases, as losing parties contested the results for months. In contrast, Ghana’s election results were declared within 24 hours. Some argue that the differences in voter populations—Ghana with 18 million registered voters compared to Nigeria’s 93 million—make the comparison unfair.

Despite this, others suggest Nigerians should appreciate INEC and Yakubu for managing such a large-scale election.
