The Enugu government is collaborating with the families of late Nollywood actors John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, and Obumneme Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope, to organize dignified burials for them.
Aka Eze Aka, the commissioner for information and communication, affirmed this commitment, describing the deaths of both actors as significant losses to the state and the nation. While no specific date has been set for Junior Pope's burial, the government is liaising with his family to respect their wishes. Regarding Mr Ibu's funeral scheduled for June 28, the government will be represented.
Aka clarified that the delay in the government's response to Junior Pope's passing was due to certain circumstances surrounding his demise, emphasizing the need for proper engagement with his family. The government has opened a condolence register to allow fans to express their sentiments.
Aka reiterated Governor Peter Mbah's dedication to fostering the entertainment industry in Enugu, including plans to establish an entertainment village to retain local talent. Junior Pope and three colleagues perished in a tragic boat accident on April 10, while Mr Ibu succumbed to stroke, diabetes, and kidney failure on March 2.
