The Nigerian government has announced plans to tackle the prevalence of fake university certificates within the country. Education Minister Tahir Mamman unveiled a roadmap aimed at transforming the education sector, emphasizing the need for a reliable database and proper planning to address educational challenges.
This initiative follows Mamman's earlier declaration that security agencies would pursue individuals with fake certificates, labeling them as criminals. The crackdown will extend to certificates from countries like Uganda, Kenya, and Niger Republic.
Recent revelations of obtaining degrees easily from certain universities have prompted the government to suspend accreditation from Benin and Togo. This move reflects a commitment to root out corruption and restore integrity to the education system.
However, amidst the government's efforts, Nigerians are urging for leadership by example. Many are pointing to prominent figures like Bola Tinubu, who allegedly submitted a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
