The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged the federal government to apologize to Nigerians for mishandling security and economic issues, leading to widespread hardship. CAN calls for effective solutions to address rising costs and persistent insecurity, highlighting the citizens' increasing frustration and despair.
The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has demanded an apology from the Federal Government for its handling of the nation’s security and economic crises. Secretary General Sunday Oibe emphasized that Nigerians are suffering and deserve an apology for the hardships they face.
Oibe urged the government to acknowledge its failures and apologize instead of attempting to influence religious and traditional leaders to discourage protests. He stated, “The government should apologize for its ineptitude and failure to address challenges threatening the very foundation of the country and improve the living conditions of the people.”
Highlighting the unbearable conditions in Nigeria, Oibe criticized the government for adopting temporary measures instead of pragmatic solutions. He pointed out that the removal of the petrol subsidy over a year ago has yet to benefit Nigerians, and security threats from bandits and terrorists persist.
Oibe called on the government to exercise political will to combat these criminals effectively. He also urged officials to be mindful of their statements and actions to avoid further provoking an already suffering populace.
The statement from Northern CAN underscores the urgency for the government to address these issues sincerely and effectively. As Nigerians continue to grapple with severe economic and security challenges, the association’s plea highlights the need for empathy and decisive action from the nation’s leaders.
