The Nigerian government has unveiled the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, set to construct 77,400 housing units across the country. The initiative aims to provide affordable homes for low-income earners, with those earning as little as ₦30,000/month able to purchase homes, benefiting vulnerable groups as well.
The Nigerian Federal Government is set to launch the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, aimed at tackling the country’s housing deficit and improving the living conditions of citizens across various income brackets. This ambitious initiative, which will see the construction of 77,400 housing units, was announced by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, during a visit to the Ministry’s headquarters on April 8, 2025.
The social housing project will be funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF) and will target Nigerians at all income levels, especially low-income earners, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The programme's overarching goal is to provide affordable housing for Nigerians, irrespective of their financial background.
In a statement, Dangiwa revealed that the plan would see 100 housing units constructed in each of the country’s 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs), with each estate equipped with vital amenities such as recreational areas, schools, police outposts, clinics, and shopping malls. The programme is set to be completed within a year.
The minister emphasized that 80% of the homes will be sold to Nigerians with a sustainable income, with the cost broken down to a manageable N10,000 per month for individuals earning as little as N30,000, and N30,000 for those earning N90,000. Additionally, 20% of the houses will be provided free of charge to widows, orphans, and other vulnerable citizens.
This initiative is part of the broader Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which includes other projects like Renewed Hope Cities in cities like Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Rivers, as well as Renewed Hope Housing Estates under a public-private partnership model. The Real Estate Innovation and Investment Carnival, organized by Creative Sphere, was also hailed by Dangiwa as an excellent platform to further boost the housing sector.
