Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, sparked political speculation as he engaged in a meeting with Senator Abubakar Gada, a prominent figure of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), alongside SDP chairman Shehu Musa Gabam and other party leaders.
The gathering, held at Senator Gada's Abuja residence, included notable political figures such as Senator Teslim Folarin, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State in the 2023 elections, and Senator Nazif Suleiman from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State.
This rendezvous, occurring shortly after El-Rufai hosts a Ramadan iftar at his Abuja residence with figures like the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and APC chieftain Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, sparked widespread speculation about El-Rufai's future political aspirations, particularly regarding a potential presidential bid in 2027.
However, El-Rufai's media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, dismissed these speculations, attributing them to an "unhealthy obsession with politics" and emphasizing the personal nature of the relationships involved.
Photos from these meetings have ignited discussions across social media platforms, with Nigerians speculating that El-Rufai's engagement is a bid for relevance, especially as he lacks support in both the South and the North.
