In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, disclosed that numerous approvals for fund releases within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during Godwin Emefiele's tenure did not bear the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ngelale acknowledged the responsibility the previous administration must take for the events in the apex bank, stating that despite achievements in infrastructure and ease of doing business, Buhari's negligence in monitoring the CBN contributed to the current state of the economy.
Ngelale highlighted instances, such as the alleged forged signature on a $6.2 million approval for foreign election observers, to underscore the complexity of the situation.
Emefiele, initially appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan and later retained by Buhari, is currently standing trial on various charges related to corruption and forgery.
The revelations raise questions about the extent of presidential oversight in critical financial decisions during Emefiele's tenure.
