In a distressing turn of events, an SOS post surfaced on social media, igniting a wave of outrage over the alleged bullying of a female student at Lead British International School in Abuja.
Shared by a user identified as @mooyeeeeeee, the post included two videos depicting the harrowing ordeal endured by the victim, as she was subjected to physical and verbal abuse by her classmates.
One of the videos captured the victim being repeatedly slapped by another female student, while the assailant questioned, "Who broke my heart?" In another disturbing clip, a male classmate can be heard admitting to sabotaging the victim's relationship, as he sat next to her, seemingly unfazed by her distress.
The post quickly garnered over 1,000 comments, with users condemning the appalling behavior exhibited by the perpetrators and demanding swift action from the school authorities.
Nigerians expressed disbelief at the mistreatment of the victim and urged the victim's parents to involve the police and school authorities to address the issue effectively.
Moreover, a social media user shared a screenshot alleging a pattern of bullying within the school, highlighting a previous incident where a student reportedly used a knife to harm a classmate, resulting in a mere two-day suspension.
Despite the mounting pressure from concerned individuals and the online community, the school has yet to issue an official response to the incident. Efforts to reach the Head of Corporate Affairs and Business Development for the Abuja branch, Ngozi Nwaokoma, have been unsuccessful, leaving many questioning the school's commitment to addressing such serious matters.
Lead British International School, renowned for its prestigious reputation and exorbitant fees, has faced scrutiny over its handling of the situation, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of students within its walls. With an annual tuition fee of N1.5 million, parents expect a conducive learning environment free from bullying and harassment.
As the outcry persists and pressure mounts on the school to take decisive action, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to prioritize student safety and implement effective measures to combat bullying in educational institutions across Nigeria.
