Bishop David Oyedepo claims Winners’ Chapel’s aircraft was purchased by divine intervention, not offerings or tithes. His statement sparked controversy, with Nigerians questioning how God funded the purchase while many struggled in poverty. Social media users criticized the claim, demanding transparency in church finances.
Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel), has stated that the church's aircraft was not purchased with offerings or tithes but was miraculously provided by God.
Speaking during a church service, Oyedepo emphasized that no one was pressured to contribute towards the aircraft purchase. According to him, the plane arrived without prior prayers or planning. “He (God) bought the first aircraft without any prayer, without any idea that the aircraft was coming,” he said.
He further explained that the purchase was part of a divine agenda and not an ambition. "The offering didn’t buy it. God bought it. No one was contacted. God said it, I believed it, and that settled it,” Oyedepo added.
His statement has triggered widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing skepticism. Some questioned how God directly purchased the aircraft, while others criticized the church's spending priorities, given the country's economic struggles. Many pointed out the irony of religious leaders urging followers to focus on heavenly rewards while enjoying luxury on earth. Others sarcastically asked for proof of the transaction or which bank God used.
