Multichoice has adjusted subscription rates for DStv and GOtv in Nigeria following a court order halting planned price hikes. The new prices reflect significant reductions across various packages, aiming to retain subscribers and comply with regulatory mandates. This decision comes amid a decline in Multichoice's Nigerian subscriber base.

MultiChoice has revised its subscription rates for DStv and GOtv users in Nigeria after a court order halted their planned price hikes.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja had issued a ruling against the proposed price increases, prompting Multichoice to reconsider its pricing strategy. This comes after the company reported a decline in its Nigerian subscriber base, resulting in the loss of over a million customers.

Multichoice confirmed the updated prices on its apps as of Sunday, June 16, 2024. The new rates reflect a significant reduction across various packages, aiming to retain subscribers and comply with the tribunal's decision.

For DStv subscribers, the Premium package now costs N29,500, down from the previously planned N37,000. The Compact+ package is adjusted to N19,800 from N25,000. Compact Bouquet subscribers will now pay N12,500 instead of N15,700, while Confam package subscribers will revert to the old price of N7,400 instead of the proposed N9,300 per month.

Similarly, Yanga package subscribers will continue to pay N4,200, avoiding the hike to N5,100. Padi subscribers are also affected, with prices adjusted back to N2,950 from N3,600.

GOtv subscribers benefit from similar adjustments. The Super+ package is now priced at N12,500, down from N15,700. GOtv Super users will pay N7,600 instead of N9,600, while GOtv Max subscribers will see their rates revert to N5,700. The GOtv Joli package is now N3,950, and GOtv Jinja is set at N2,700.

This move is seen as a response to both regulatory pressure and the need to maintain a competitive edge in Nigeria's dynamic pay-TV market. As competition from streaming services intensifies, Multichoice's decision to adjust its pricing reflects a strategic effort to retain its customer base while complying with legal mandates.
