The Federal Government has underscored the crucial importance of coastal route construction in Nigeria, highlighting its potential to strengthen the nation's currency, the Naira.
Speaking at the unveiling of the new design routes for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Lagos, Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, emphasized the economic benefits and foreign investments associated with these routes. He explained that the construction, which involves concrete pavements and foreign investment, will not only enhance connectivity but also stabilize the Naira.
Umahi further outlined the extensive network of coastal routes, including the Sokoto-Badagry spur, and the Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja-Cameroun-African Trans-Sahara route, stressing their transformative impact on travel times and trade facilitation.
