The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently announced the arrest of a father and son for impersonating the latter during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during his inspection tour of UTME centres in Kaduna. Despite overall satisfaction with the conduct of the 2024 examination, Prof. Oloyede highlighted instances of impersonation, attributing it to the prevalence of individuals possessing multiple National Identity Numbers (NIN), which undermines the identity verification process.
He expressed concern over the impact of impersonation on the future of affected candidates and emphasized the need for stringent measures against malpractice. The registrar stressed JAMB's commitment to upholding exam integrity and using advanced technology to combat cheating.
Additionally, he clarified that JAMB could not accommodate cases of candidates missing the exam due to negligence. Prof. Oloyede also called for support from authorities to establish mega CBT centers, citing the success of such centers in Kaduna.
Overall, his remarks underscored JAMB's resolve to address malpractices and maintain the integrity of examinations.
