The Nigerian government is distributing subsidized rice to states to ease the cost of living. Despite this, the Federal Executive Council urges against the planned national protest, asserting that most grievances are being addressed.

The Federal Government has initiated the distribution of 10 additional trucks of 50kg of rice to each state, to be sold at N40,000 per bag at designated centers. This measure aims to alleviate the high cost of living and food inflation. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) maintains that there is no need for the planned national protest on August 1st, as the government is already addressing many of the demands.

President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that he is acting on behalf of the youth by implementing necessary measures. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the rice distribution is part of efforts to combat poverty and support those in need. The rice is sold at half its market cost to ensure affordability.

Idris reassured that this is a listening government, responsive to citizens' concerns. He mentioned that further investments in agriculture are underway, expected to lower food prices. Additionally, the government is disbursing student loans and plans to employ millions of youths through various initiatives.

Economic experts and some citizens question the long-term sustainability of subsidies. However, the government remains hopeful that these steps will provide immediate relief and lay the groundwork for more substantial economic improvements.

As the government continues to roll out these measures, it appeals for the planned protest to be reconsidered, emphasizing the potential for violence and disruption. The mixed public reactions highlight the complexity of addressing economic grievances, but the government's proactive stance shows a commitment to easing the burden on Nigerian citizens.
